The aim of our Medical Services Team within Women’s Football is to provide a world leading medical department and support the performance and health of our elite female players.  

The department promotes high performance, injury prevention, injury rehabilitation and development of elite training environments and are a key part of our Club and are supported by a fully integrated team of medical personnel including physiotherapists, psychologists, sports science and strength & conditioning staff. 

About the opportunity
A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to work within our Medical & Sports Science Team as Senior Physiotherapist – Women’s Team, with day-to-day operations being focussed on elite medical service, supporting both fit and injured players concurrently.

Reporting directly into our Chief Executive Officer – Everton Women you will operate as an expert within the field of physiotherapy, which includes specialised assessment, on-going treatment, and emergency first aid care for match days and training.

You will lead the efficient and effective functioning of the department, leading prehab and rehab strategies as well as supporting the coordination of physiotherapy services and medical arrangements. 

Who we are looking for
We are looking for a talented and passionate individual who has experience of working within elite sport, which does not necessarily need to be football.  

You must be comfortable working with a wide variety of injuries and flexible enough to rotate into a travelling performance team that supports our elite players through competitive fixtures, both home and away.

We need someone who possess the ability to work discreetly under pressure, but also as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and can evidence on-going CPD in major speciality of their work portfolio. 

It is essential that the successful candidate has the following educational experience:
  • MSc Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Bronze, Silver or Gold ACPSM physiotherapy
  • FA Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)
  • Be a UKAD Clean Sport Advisor


This role is on a permanent bases working 40 hours per week and is based within Finch Farm training ground in Liverpool (Halewood).

Nutritionist h/m - Liverpool FC - Inglaterra

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Nutrition team. The main focus of this job is to provide performance nutrition support primarily for the U18 and U21’s teams, those who are transitioning into the First Team and players on loan working alongside the Head of Nutrition to ensure consistency with our First Team protocols at the AXA Training Centre.

What will you be doing?

The overarching roles and responsibilities include:
  • Responsibility for the Education and Development of player nutritional awareness.
  • Supporting Match Day and Training sessions with nutritional input and advice.
  • The management of strategies and protocols in accordance with Club standards and directives.
  • Providing monthly reports on loan players based on information gathered from loan clubs.
  • Attend medical and multi-disciplinary meetings to provide updates on individual nutritional plans as necessary.
  • Having a presence in the dining rooms to advise players, providing creative options and ensure food standards
  • Providing regular communication and updates to the Head of Nutrition providing support as and when required.
  • Supporting players who are transitioning into the First Team in their development and awareness of nutrition. Travelling with the U18 and U21 teams, as and when required, also for all away games manage the preparation for the teams including briefing hotels, ensuring that the locker rooms are set up correctly, ensuring recovery strategies and post-match catering is provided to Club nutritional standards.
  • Developing and evaluating bespoke nutritional programs for elite players.
  • Providing regular nutritional education to players and parents throughout the age group.
  • Implementing strategies to support players' training and competitive programs whilst demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the science that supports sports nutrition e.g., nutrition to support strength development, recovery, hydration, supplementation, use of ergogenic aids, recovery from surgery etc.
  • Implement injury and rehabilitation nutrition programs for elite players as part of a team with other medical, fitness and coaching staff.
  • Develop standards and protocols for key areas of nutrition provision e.g., supplementation, travel, performance catering and menu planning as well as illness and injury contingency plans.
  • To be the point of contact for the catering team around timings, nutritional needs and culinary creativity.

Who are we looking for?
To be successful you must have experience working with elite athletes in an elite sports environment and you must have a post-graduate degree in Performance Nutrition or Nutrition with sports expertise or a similar nutrition based discipline from a recognised university.  You must have a nutrition qualification e.g., SENr Accredited (or have the ability to complete accreditation within an agreed time period).  Likewise, you must have an ISAK Level 1 or willingness to undertake training and experience in body composition measurements, interpretation and data storage.

You must also have:
  • Experience of catering and cooking on a basic level;
  • Experience of developing and implementing evidence-based innovative ideas and putting them into practice, including working in an applied and integrated multi-disciplinary manner;
  • Experience in or evidence of understanding the provision of nutritional support to athletes and coaches to support performance, which should include the planning, implementation and monitoring of specific nutrition programs; and experience in or evidence of understanding the ability to modify nutritional programs according to assessment data, in conjunction with Fitness, Medical and other support staff.
  • UKAD advisor certificate / attended the Introduction to Clean Sport course
  • Be able to work flexible hours and travel both nationally and internationally and understand the pressures and commitments required for elite players involved in higher level youth football.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to adapt to the football schedule and be well experienced in consulting situations.
  • The ability to be an excellent role model and demonstrate the ability to create positive working relationships with key stakeholders.


It is desirable that you have:
  • Evidence of further development and recent CPD activities - this could include experience in elite sporting environments other than football
  • Knowledge of the overall Elite Player Plan (EPPP) and specifically the sports science elements of EPPP.

The Purpose
To lead medical service provision for Manchester United Women’s Teams.

The Role
  • To manage and deliver elite sports medical services for all Women’s Professional and Development squads.
  • Attending all match days and tours sometimes working unsociable hours
  • Providing medical support and cover for Women’s Team matches.Line management, supervision and mentoring of Women’s medical staff.
  • Liaise effectively with the Women’s Team Head Physiotherapist
  • Liaise effectively with Football Management and Support staff including Player Care, and anyone involved in the Women’s Team.
  • Follow Clinical Governance process in all player healthcare matters in accordance with accepted UK professional practice standards.


The Person

  • Experience in General Medical Practice & Sports Medicine.
  • Significant experience in leading an elite Sports Team medical service.
  • Ability to multitask and work to strict deadlines.
  • You will show high levels of accuracy, standards and be quality driven.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy, familiar with Microsoft office or similar packages.
  • Ability to integrate into the multidisciplinary Football Medicine & Science Team and liaise with other administrative and player support departments.
  • Methodical approach with planning, excellent organizational skills and an ability to work with total discretion at all times.
  • Ideally has gained experience working with female athletes at an elite level

Academy lead physiotherapist h/m - Fulham FC - Inglaterra

Department Management
  • Assist HoP with production, implementation, and monitoring of the Performance Department Plan in line with the Academy Performance Plan and EPP requirements.
  • Develop and implement a clear medical department plan within the Academy that is integrated with Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning and aligned with Coaching and the wider MDT.
  • Ensure all staff in the relevant discipline understand and can clearly convey the philosophy, plans and targets as directed by HoP.

P
rofessional Development
  • Line-manage a selection of Physiotherapy staff (part and full-time) and placement students, including annual appraisals, monitoring of job descriptions and maintenance of up-to-date qualifications, with support of the HoP.
  • Assist HoP with the recruitment process of new Academy Performance Department staff.
  • Implement a CPD schedule for the Academy, and where appropriate lead CPD sessions.
  • Undertake personal continued professional development to ensure all mandatory qualifications are up to date, as well as ensuring a clear understanding of industry best practice.
  • Continue to drive best practice, professional development, and critical thinking within the department.
  • Support where required at Academy events, including but not only, induction events, parent workshops, academy games.

Clinical Management
  • Oversee all clinical management of players throughout all phases through communication with phase group lead medical staff.
  • Continue to meet regularly with medical and coach phase leads to update and discuss players and management.
  • Emergency care assessment, recommendation & referral to appropriate medical professional for injury / illness.
  • External medical management of players requiring consultations/referral.
  • Ensure all academy players are accompanied to external appointments (MRI’s, consultant, cardiac etc.) where necessary.
  • Be the central contact for all academy parents for any long-term injury assessment or management.
  • Review and coordinate the screening across the Academy designed to inform risk of injury.
  • Ensure all medical notes and records are up to date, stored in line with GDPR rules and industry best practice, for all phases.
  • Maintain professional patient clinician relationships.
  • Deliver individual physiotherapy treatment plans for injured academy players.
  • Manage fitness / end stage rehabilitation programme for players returning from injury.
  • Return injured players back to full fitness including gym-based rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, on-field functional technical sessions and aerobic / anaerobic conditioning.

Programme Management
  • Ensure all medical staff implement the Academy rules and Code of Expectations across all players.
  • Build effective working relationships with players to support buy-in and a collaborative view of performance development.
  • Fulfil appropriate requirements within age group or phase practitioner job description.
  • Provide oversight of individual physiotherapy treatment and return to play plans for injured athletes, and if necessary, take the lead on prescribed treatment and programming.
  • Provide insights to support the development of 6-weekly players targets and to inform processes of recruitment and succession planning.
  • Inform the MDT to support decision making regarding programme scheduling such as to optimise performance, manage injury risk, and support ongoing training progression and player development.

Women’s First Team Physiotherapist h/m - Manchester United FC - Inglaterra

The Purpose
Plan, coordinate and deliver professional level assessment and diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation programs, and provide world class support to all athletes within the Women’s first team squad.

The Role

  • To be committed to ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all MUFCW athletes
  • To work with the Head of Physiotherapy to deliver accurate assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and effective rehabilitation for players who have sustained an injury
  • To deliver specialized and individualized player rehabilitation programs, using an established philosophy and rehab method. This includes the implementation of gym-based and pitch-based Football focused rehabilitation programs
  • To work as a member of the Medical and Performance team to further develop elite level rehabilitation and return to play processes
  • To coordinate the transition of all injured professional players within the first team squad back into first team training and matches, in collaboration with all members of the Medical and Performance interdisciplinary team
  • To contribute to the development of the wider Physiotherapy department through ongoing learning and a commitment to departmental in-house CPD programs
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information regarding injured players
  • Carry out annual and weekly medical and performance screening protocols, using gathered information to develop individualised prehab programmes aimed at preventing injuries and improving performance
  • Perform daily duties in a manner consistent with the Medical and Performance Department’s philosophy
  • To ensure Head of Physiotherapy is updated on daily caseload and rehabilitation outcomes
  • Contribute to the day-to-day treatment, management, and maintenance of non-injured players, including making recommendations around training modifications when indicated and having a sound understanding of sport science principles to guide this process

  • Liaise and build strong professional relationships with external health professionals such as specialists/podiatrists/radiologists to arrange player appointments and optimise care
  • To accompany players to medical consultations, possibly at short notice, ensuring the player receives optimal care and advice at all times (this may include longer travel periods when required)

  • To assist with the on-field medical management of players alongside a Head of Physiotherapy and Team doctor
  • To assist with match-day preparation for First Team fixtures as required including emergency injury care
  • To ensure that all medical records, physical screening and treatment information is kept in accordance with Manchester United Physiotherapy Service Standards and detailed medical records are maintained on the club’s medical record system
  • To be flexible and able to work evenings/weekends, travel to home and away games as required, attend pre and in-season tours including overseas travel as required
  • To provide guidance to the Academy Women’s Team Physiotherapy staff and Academy athletes as and when required
  • Report to the Head of Physiotherapy for daily workload organisation and Professional Development and review purposes, and liaise with the Head of Physiotherapy for personal and departmental support and professional mentoring as needed


The Person

  • At least five years of experience working effectively within a professional Football interdisciplinary team, with experience of leading on the rehabilitation of common and complex football injuries
  • Ability to adapt to changes of schedule and the needs of the wider team
  • Excellent clinical reasoning skills
  • Excellent clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment skills
  • Evidence of leadership skills within a high-performance sporting environment
  • Highly experienced in the planning and delivery of gym-based and pitch-based Football rehabilitation programs, utilising an established rehabilitation process and method
  • To be competent with the interpretation of objective outcome measures during rehabilitation and as part of weekly screening: Including Isokinetic Dynamometry (Biodex), Nordbord, Kangatech and Forceplates testing (desirable)
